I was driven to get a horse when a boarding stable opened just 3 minutes from my home, I had stopped and discussed boarding and reserved a stall that day- then the only issue was to find a horse! And the search began- I looked at a number of horses. On a whim after searching the Want Ad Digest went up into the hills beyond Middleburgh and the search ended. There he was!
A 9 year old Registered Quarter Horse- 14-2 hands and just a real gentleman. I was a little overwhelmed by the price as my first horse cost $125 and my second $500 but there was no doubt he was the boy for me.
July 1997 we began the bonding of souls. The first thing was to change his name- he was born in Muse, Oklahoma and named Sorrell Joe Junior- he was previously called Junior or Joe but I didn’t like either so a combination of the 2 came up JUJU.
We have been together almost 7 years and have put a lot of miles on- not always good times- most of the time I don’t know what I am doing but he has always been patient with me. We have rolled through a giant mud puddle; with brand new tack AND me on his back, at
the beginning of The Over the Mt Ride. We’ve had loading issues, let’s lay down in the water issues and sometimes just stubborn issues. But through it all he is my best friend and I cannot imagine life without him. A horse can be expensive, frustrating, frightening, AND the best thing that could ever happen to a girl!
